A Year of Accomplishments for Teche Regional Medical Center

4/26/2012

At Teche Regional Medical Center, our goal is to deliver the best healthcare available to the residents of St. Mary Parish as we seek to make our community healthier. With the help of dedicated physicians, employees, volunteers and board members, along with your continued support and encouragement, we continue our passionate pursuit of excellence.

Delivering quality healthcare close to home is the single most important contribution we make. But there are many other ways we make a positive impact on the communities we serve.

In 2011, Teche Regional spent $1.2 million to convert the hospital to Electronic Medical Records.  So far in 2012, the hospital has begun renovations of all of the public restrooms as well as the hospital gift shop. In the third quarter 2012, Teche will expand its Inpatient Rehab Unit with the addition of two rooms. Our Inpatient Rehab Unit makes Teche Regional the only hospital in St. Mary Parish to offer a truly comprehensive rehabilitation program incorporating physical, occupational and speech therapy services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

In fact, we invested over $2.5 million in our facility last year which, in addition to the above, included technology replaceĀment, information technology additions/updates, and important facility upkeep and maintenance.

Last year, Teche Regional Medical Center paid $467,139 in property and sales taxes that have helped support our city, parish and state. These dollars help support local schools, development of roads, recruitment of business and industry, and other vital community services.

Teche Regional Medical Center provided millions of dollars in uncompensated care last year, which included the amounts not covered by Medicare and Medicaid. This amount includes more than $13 million for charity care and bad debt incurred as we served many people without the financial resources to pay for basic health services.

During the past year, Teche was pleased to welcome the following specialty physicians to our highly respected medical staff: Two Internal Medicine physicians, Carla Thurston, MD, with the Medicine Clinic of Morgan City and Darrell Solet, MD with Cardiovascular Institute of the South joined the active staff. Along with Internal Medicine, the hospital has been joined by Cardiologist, Dean Valdez, MD, with Southern Heart Clinic and Christopher Stewart, MD; an Orthopaedic Surgeon with First Orthopaedics of South Louisiana.

With an annual payroll of $18.3 million and more than 300 employees, Teche Regional Medical Center is one of the largest employers in the region. This means that our staff and their families attend many of the same schools, shop at the same grocery stores, and volunteer their time and resources for the same organizations as you do.

As we have for many years, Teche Regional remains committed to the community and supporting its continued growth. Throughout 2011 the hospital gave over $50 thousand in local sponsorships and donations. As we look to the future of healthcare in our community, the employees, physicians, and board of trustees are focused on one goal, which is creating a culture where patients and employees feel valued and appreciated and having a positive impact on the lives of the people in the community. It is because of the continued support and positive perception of the community and surrounding areas, the success of the hospital is achieved.
